The Ministry of Industry and Trade began looking for potential developers for the Russian console. The necessary support measures are currently being discussed with industry representatives. Market participants expressed doubts that it would be possible to implement and recover the project without government subsidies. Details are provided by RBC with reference to the ministry’s press service.

The issue of creating a Russian game console was raised by President Vladimir Putin, who gave this order in March 2024. The government must “consider the issue of organizing the production of stationary and portable game consoles and game consoles , as well as the creation of an operating system and a cloud system to deliver games and programs to users” before June 15.
The government press service explained to the publication’s journalists that Russia has already created the necessary services for cloud operating and delivery systems for games and programs. As an example: VK Play, MTS Fog Play and Plus Gaming. These platforms provide copyright holders the opportunity to publish and distribute video games. Moreover, this can be done not only by Russian representatives of this industry, but also by foreign ones. But as for issues related to the organization of the production of game consoles, the Ministry of Industry and Trade is responsible.
The Ministry of Industry and Trade is already discussing the creation of a national game console together with interested departments and companies. They are now identifying potential players among manufacturers and what resources, as well as support measures, they need.
“If the appropriate decision is made, the development process for a game console will need to be synchronized with the development or adaptation of games for it,” the department says.
The publication also notes that the press service of the Ministry of Industry and Trade did not specify which companies are showing interest in the project.
We previously wrote that the company of former Minister of Communications Leonid Reiman will develop a game console on Linux.
