The company launched an investigation after receiving an anonymous letter alleging that Adidas China employees, including the country’s marketing head, received bribes from third-party service providers, the Financial Times reported.
Additionally, workers are accused of receiving “millions in cash” and gifts such as real estate. It is mentioned that Adidas’ marketing budget in China is 250 million euros per year.
The German sportswear giant “takes the allegations very seriously” and is conducting a review with outside legal counsel. The company does not plan to release additional information until the investigation is complete.
The newspaper’s sources said none of the accused employees were placed on leave and the letter’s authors did not provide hard evidence of the corruption allegations. At the same time, according to the publication’s interlocutors, prosecutors are well aware of confidential issues.
