The Federal Supreme Court (STF) announced A tender is being floated to hire a company that will help the agency fight misinformation on the internet. Additionally, the goal is to promote “well-being” online.
The value of the contract is R$ 345 thousand for a period of 12 months and Constant monitoring of social networks as well as monitoring users 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
STF has been intensifying its efforts to combat the spread of fake news on the Brazilian internet for several years. In this scenario, the Supreme Court emerges as one of the most attacked federal institutions; body image is often belittled and associated with actions that have negative consequences.
With the new measure, the Supreme Court aims to know everything said about the organization on social media. In addition to analyzing the impact of agency-related information on society, it is aimed to identify the sources and target audience of the campaigns.
Users can be identified by georeferencing
According to the STF, the purpose of monitoring is to provide a safer digital environment for Brazilians. It is no coincidence that the organization carried out its most important initiative in combating disinformation on the eve of this year’s elections.
The company that wins the tender will be responsible for monitoring Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, Instagram, Flickr, TikTok and LinkedIn 24/7.
The company will need to use a specific tool to be able to “identify audiences, opinion makers, adopted conversations, georeference the origin of posts, as well as evaluate the influence of audiences, message patterns and possible actions,” the statement says. The work will include actions such as:
- Analysis of the image of the Supreme Court;
- Identifying the issues addressed on STF-related digital platforms;
- Publishing reports including daily, weekly and monthly balance sheets;
- General assessment of the impact of mobilization on court-related matters, assessment of its consequences for society;
- Tracking and identifying the authors of particularly negative publications.
All information collected and analyzed by the company can be shared directly with the Federal Police (PF) in order to prevent threats to ministers and protect their physical integrity.
