A new study proposes the use of nanocapsules that contain the drug and release it only under the influence of focused ultrasound. The nanocapsules, just 500 nanometers in size, consist of a polymer shell and an inner core containing the drug. To release the drug, the capsules are exposed to ultrasound at a specific frequency.
Researchers tested the effectiveness of three different drug delivery methods and settled on Perflubron (PFOB), which provides the optimal balance between capsule stability and drug release. Experiments demonstrated the safety of the method; No side effects were found.
Scientists have published a method for creating nanocapsules so that other researchers can use them. The new method can be used to treat a variety of diseases, depending on the drug chosen.
