The expert explained that falsification attacks are carried out – changing the content of the home page. In other words, when the user enters the main page of the site, he sees what the hackers will show, not the content that should be on it.
According to Akimov, tampering attacks are more difficult as they cannot be automated. Therefore, DDoS remains the most common weapon of hackers – they are carried out literally “at the touch of a button”.
The expert noted that this is due to the weak protection of the CMS – Content management system – on which the hacked site is deployed. Although, of course, this is not the only reason. A serious problem lies in the fact that universities often have a poorly organized information security system or none at all.
“In most cases, the information security system in universities is poorly organized or does not exist at all. It would be wrong to say that the use of a CMS vulnerability for tampering is common in an attack on universities. Maxim Akimov noted that this type of attack is poorly automated and requires “manual work” by hackers, while DDoS is actually implemented at the touch of a button.
