The investigation believes that Evgeny Novitsky and others, through a prior conspiracy, developed a plan to steal funds from the non-state pension fund “Ural FD”.
Under the pretext of purchasing liquid securities on the stock market, they planned to steal money from the Ural FD, as well as the pension savings of its participants, transferred as payment for securities at an inflated cost and not on market conditions. The Central Bank revoked the fund’s license in June 2016.
Yevgeny Novitsky was detained on the afternoon of June 21 in connection with the investigation of a criminal case of an economic nature. He headed AFK Sistema from 1995 to 2005 and until 2013 he also served on the company’s board of directors.
