Scientists emphasize that while native species remain inactive and try to keep up with the changing climate, non-native plants and animals move in nearby areas at speeds of up to 35 kilometers per year. Human activities such as global trade and deliberate horticulture are further increasing this spread, causing non-native species to move an average of 1,883 kilometers per year.
The study highlights the urgent need for strategies such as assisted migration to help native species, which face increasing difficulties in adapting to rapid environmental change, move to more suitable habitats.
