According to the Financial Times, the reason for Benarroch’s dismissal was pressure from X owner Elon Musk. The billionaire demands to reduce costs and increase the company’s profitability.
According to the newspaper’s sources, the reason for the dismissal of the former head of commercial operations was an error in updating the policy on age-restricted content.
At the beginning of June, X officially allowed the publication of erotic content with the consent of the people who appear in the photos and videos. It should be noted that Benarroch did not notify users about the upcoming changes, which served as the formal reason for his dismissal.
Benarroch was Linda Yaccarino’s right-hand man: the top manager arrived at X last summer and previously worked with the social network’s CEO at NBCUniversal.
Elon Musk introduced Linda Yaccarino as the new CEO of Twitter (now X) in May 2023. The billionaire then stepped down as CEO and became the company’s CTO. As the FT highlights, since then the relationship between Musk and Yaccarino has deteriorated due to the businessman’s constant demands to reduce costs.
Benarroch’s responsibilities will be assumed by Head of Government Relations, Nick Pickles. The FT notes that Pickles is one of the few senior managers at the company who “survived” Elon Musk’s purchase of Twitter.
