The European Commission has accused Apple of failing to comply with the Digital Market Act and stifling competition in the App Store.

The agency believes that Apple prohibits developers from freely informing their users in applications about alternative payment methods.

The European Commission is also monitoring the legality of Apple’s requirements, which obliges developers to pay 0.5 euros for each installed application from the application store if the number of installations reaches 1 million.

Apple said it has made a number of changes to its App Store policies in response to developer feedback and the commission’s panel.

We are confident that our plan complies with the law and expect that more than 99% of developers will pay Apple the same amount or less under the new business rules we are creating.

The European Commission will announce the results of the investigation by March 25, 2025. If it concludes that Apple has violated the Digital Marketplace Act, it will have to fine the company 10% of global revenue. [Financial Times]
