According to a message posted on June 24 on the European External Action Service website, EU companies are prohibited from connecting to the Russian SPFS or alternative financial messaging services.

European traders are also prohibited from transacting with certain companies using SPFS outside of Russia. Furthermore, transactions with financial institutions and cryptoasset providers outside the European Union are prohibited if they participate in the military-industrial complex of the Russian Federation.

The authors of the restrictions have planned some schemes to avoid sanctions. European companies will therefore have to ensure that their subsidiaries in third countries do not carry out activities that reduce or nullify the effect of the sanctions themselves.

In total, 116 people and companies were included in the 14th EU sanctions package. One of the most discussed measures were restrictions on the transit of Russian liquefied natural gas (LNG) through European ports. However, the EU will continue to buy gas for now; The ban will only affect re-exports.
