Microsoft is experimenting with integrating the Link to Phone application into the Windows 11 Start Menu. The new feature places information from the device paired with the computer directly into the classic section of the operating system.
The feature was announced by Microsoft in a post on the Windows Blogs website last Friday (21). In the post, MS included an image of the activated function that shows general device information (name, connection status, Bluetooth and battery level) and shortcuts to Cellular Connect app functions.
As the screenshot shows, the integration takes the form of a column next to the Start Menu. The screen is simple and does not seem to fill the section with unnecessary information.
When you click on any of the buttons, The user is directed to the relevant section in the Phone Connection application. Therefore, the partition acts as a hub for shortcuts and displays essential device data, eliminating the need for repeated access to the application.
The Cellular Connect app must also have the latest version (at least version 1.24052.124.0) for the function to work.
This feature is part of build 22635.3790 (KB5039307), which is currently only available to testers registered in the Beta Channel. The integration is being rolled out gradually, rolling out first to users who choose to receive experimental news first. There are no predictions regarding the final version of the tool.
It’s worth remembering that it was the same update that made Copilot less useful on Copilot+ computers. The virtual assistant was no longer a native integration of the operating system and was included as a simple web application, losing important functionality.
