Google Translate will use artificial intelligence to expand support for 110 new languages, the company announced this Thursday (27). The improvement takes advantage of similarities between dialects and language standards to expand the catalog of languages supported in the tool.

“As technology advances and we continue to partner with expert linguists and native speakers, we will support more language varieties and spelling conventions over time,” Google said in announcing the news.
The 110 new languages supported by Google Translate include Afar, Cantonese, Manx, NKO, Panjabi (Shahmukhi) and Tok Pisin.
This development in translator is another advancement brought about by the evolution of machine learning and artificial intelligence-related technologies. In May 2022, Google introduced a tool called “Zero Shot Machine Translation” that allows the platform to learn new dialects from scratch, even without previous examples.
