Apple Authorized Reseller in the United States Simply Mac abruptly closed all 53 stores in early June after 16 years of operation and did not return devices for repair to anyone.

The closure was a surprise to everyone. Simply Mac CEO Rein Voigt said the company is immediately laying off all employees and filing for bankruptcy.

Simply Mac was also an Apple Authorized Service Center, so users regularly took devices in for repairs. After closing, customers cannot return the devices because they are simply closed in the waiting room where no one is.

A resident of Forsyth County in North Carolina said that her son has been waiting for a MacBook Pro and AirPod Pro repair since the end of May. No one warned her and her son about the closure of the store. They found out about it when they received a letter from Apple.

It’s gotten to the point where Apple sends employees to Simply Mac offices to pick up all the devices from repair. Then Apple will repair the gadgets on its own and send them to the owners.

The company has set up a dedicated team to return the devices, but warned that the process would be slow. [Forsythnews]
