The project involves euthanizing and safely injecting small doses of radioisotopes into the horns of 20 rhinos. These isotopes will not harm animals, but will prevent smuggling by operating radiation detectors at airports and ports. If successful, the initiative could be expanded to other endangered species, such as elephants.

This initiative represents a new approach as the rhino horn trade is a lucrative illegal trade.
