This is noticeable in games such as Resident Evil 4, Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War and Grand Theft Auto V. Digital Foundry experts explained the reasons for this phenomenon. John Linneman stated that the PS5 has an incredibly fast shader compiler and a more efficient API.
“One of the features of PS5 is its extremely fast and optimized shader compiler. Microsoft didn’t pay much attention to that. Also, the main API of PS5 is superior to that of Xbox Series X,” Linneman explained.
But there are also games where the Xbox Series X performs better, such as most games on Unreal Engine 5. This is due to the greater number of compute units on the Xbox Series X.
So despite the specs, actual gaming performance depends on many factors, including software optimization and system architecture.
