The H100 AI accelerators, known as Hoppers, are critical for processing large language models and are in high demand in the AI industry. Each H100 costs between $30,000 and $40,000, putting the total investment for training Grok 3 at between $3 billion and $4 billion. It’s unclear whether Musk’s xAI is buying or leasing these GPUs, but previous reports suggest significant direct purchases.

Musk’s ambitious plans for Grok 3 follow his earlier deployment of 20,000 H100s for Grok 2 training.

Grok 3 is set to be released later this year.
