During the Galaxy Unpacked 2024 presentation, Samsung announced a new generation of flexible smartphones Galaxy Fold6 and Flip6.
The company continues to put a big emphasis on artificial intelligence this year, and has now expanded it to foldable devices.
What did they show?
Samsung Galaxy Fold6
The external screen of the device has become wider and slightly lower to improve ease of use. In terms of dimensions, the device is almost no different from its predecessor:
• unfolded: 132.6 x 153.5 x 5.6 mm
• folded: 68.1 x 153.5 x 12.1 mm
The external screen has a diagonal of 6.3 inches and a resolution of 2376×968 pixels, using Dynamic AMOLED 2X technology, and a refresh rate of 1–120 Hz.
The internal display is a 7.6-inch Dynamic AMOLED 2X module with a resolution of 2160×1856 pixels and a frequency of 1–120 Hz. S Pen is supported.
For performance, Samsung uses a custom-designed Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chip, 12GB of RAM, and up to 1TB of internal storage.
The smartphone has a 50 MP main camera module (f/1.8, optical stabilization). It is complemented by a 12 MP ultra-wide-angle sensor (f/2.2, 123° viewing angle) and a 10 MP telephoto sensor (f/2.4, 3x optical zoom, optical stabilization).
The battery in the device is not very large, its capacity is 4400 mAh.
Distinctive features include support for Galaxy AI functions:
• Circle to search: quick search for information on the screen
• Assistant for notes: personal editor for formatting, spell checking and punctuation of texts or changing its style
• Web Assistant: assistant for collecting the most interesting news from the Internet
• Assistant for audio disk: transcript of audio recordings with each speaker highlighted in the text
• AI drawing: converting a sketch into a full-fledged graphic image.
• Simultaneous translation: translation of conversations during calls in two-way format in real time
Samsung Galaxy Flip6
This is a more compact smartphone, but also with a flexible screen.
The external screen is 3.4 inches, Super AMOLED, 748×720 pixels. Supports a refresh rate of 60 Hz. The internal screen is a 6.7-inch Dynamic AMOLED 2X panel with a resolution of 2460×1080 pixels and a refresh rate of 1–120 Hz.
Performance is provided by a custom-designed Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 processor for Galaxy, 12GB of RAM and up to 512GB of internal storage.
The battery here is smaller than in the Fold6 — only 4000 mAh. There is support for fast and wireless charging.
You can take photos with two lenses: the main 50 MP (f/1.8, optical stabilization) and the ultra-wide 12 MP (f/2.2, 123° viewing angle). The front camera is 10 MP (f/2.2).
