Apple plans to ship at least 90 million iPhone 16 units in the second half of this year.
The company expects Apple Intelligence to boost demand for the new smartphones, which is why iPhone 16 shipments have increased by 10% compared to iPhone 15.
But 2024 will be a tough year for the company. Earlier this year, Apple faced a decline in iPhone sales in China amid the success of Huawei’s new smartphones. Apple even had to temporarily lower iPhone prices.
And while the company is betting on Apple Intelligence, the service is unlikely to launch in China this year. Apple will need to find a Chinese partner to integrate its AI into iOS 18. ChatGPT and Google Gemini are not available in China, as are all other foreign chatbots. [Bloomberg]
