According to one of the developers, Mikhail Shadrin, the camera was designed for the Video Goal system used in refereeing hockey matches. Current cameras that shoot at 50 or even 100 frames per second do not always capture the moment the puck hits the goal. The new camera will solve this problem by providing accuracy and high-quality recording.

A prototype of the device has been created, and the production model is planned to be presented at the Natexpo international exhibition at the end of August. Currently, the Video Goal system is used in about 100 hockey rinks in Russia, including the NHL. The development of SoftLab-NSK will be an important step in import substitution, as foreign analogues are not available due to sanctions.

The company’s general manager, Irina Travina, noted that the camera will be used not only in hockey, but also in other sports and IT systems that require high-speed shooting, such as volleyball, football and even Formula 1.
