By the end of 2023, the overdue debt of taxpayers of the Russian Federation increased by 1.3 times to 1.32 trillion rubles, the Accounts Chamber reported this based on the results of an audit of the federal budget execution by the Federal Tax Service.

Corporate tax debt increased by 11.8% year-on-year. Value-added tax debts increased by 17.6%. These two segments showed the largest increase in tax debt in 2023.

As of January 1, 2024, the total receivables from the Federal Tax Service doubled to 2.37 trillion rubles.

The Federal Tax Service explained that the increase in debt is associated with a change in the calculation methodology and is of a technical nature. In fact, the total number of debtors decreased by 1.7 times and payment discipline increased by 1.5 times.
