Scientists have identified a protein whose blocking slows down aging. It is called interleukin-11, the production of which causes fat accumulation and muscle loss. Protein blocking experiments have allowed mice to live longer by 20 to 25%.

World scientists have identified one of the key causes of human aging. It is the protein interleukin-11, the production of which in the human body accelerates aging, the BBC reported.
According to scientists, the production of interleukin-11 in the body of an elderly person contributes to the accumulation of fat in the liver and abdominal cavity, a decrease in strength and muscle mass. At the same time, this protein at an early age is responsible for the fusion of the bones of the skull, strengthening of joints and the formation of teeth.
Experiments on mice showed that individuals in which protein production was blocked had an increased life expectancy of 20-25%. The experiments were successful on mice whose age by human standards was 55 years.
Scientists at the MRC Health Sciences Laboratory, Imperial College London and Duke-NUS Medical School in Singapore have already begun preliminary trials with the drug in humans.
