Spain’s antitrust regulator (CNMC) suspects Apple of violating competition laws. The CNMC has launched an investigation into the company, it said on its website.
The regulator will examine whether Apple’s actions to impose unfavourable commercial conditions on App Store app developers violate local and EU competition laws. The investigation is expected to last two years.
If Apple is found guilty, the company could face a fine of up to 10% of its annual turnover, or $38 billion.
Based on the results of the investigation, the European Commission has preliminarily established that Apple has violated EU legislation on digital markets. It has not yet been announced whether the company will be fined.
