The service will lay off about 1,000 people, or about 3% of its workforce worldwide. The workforce reductions are part of a restructuring aimed at cutting costs and redirecting resources to “growth areas”: improving cybersecurity, combating fraud and entering new markets.

Mastercard plans to spend at least $190 million to implement the stated program.
