Users claim that the error appears when entering the sequence “”: and any fourth character in Spotlight search or in the app library. This does not pose a security threat.

The publication’s journalists said that on devices running the latest version of iOS 17, this combination will cause the home screen interface to malfunction and a “soft” reboot of the system. But on iOS 18 and iOS 18.1, Spotlight search may freeze only briefly, without serious consequences for the operation of Springboard.

This isn’t the first time a combination in a text string has caused problems on the iPhone. Nearly 10 years ago, a bug called “Power Efficient” would crash the Messages section and reboot the device upon receiving a certain text. Apple has yet to comment on this bug.

Previously, RB.RU reported that a reason was given why a third of Americans would not buy the iPhone 16.
