In experiments, scientists found that the use of capsules containing the herbicide 2,4-dichloropheoxyacetic acid (2,4-D) significantly reduces its release into groundwater and prolongs its protective effect. For example, biochar-based capsules reduce the release of herbicides into water by 75%, providing maximum efficiency in the first days after processing the fields, the press service of the Russian Science Foundation (RSF) reported.

The effectiveness of silica capsules, which allow the rate of herbicide entry into the soil to be controlled, has also been studied. Polymer and hydrogel carriers allow the dose of the drug to be reduced, allowing for more accurate distribution.
