French TV channel TF1 reported that Pavel Durov was arrested at the Paris airport.
It happened at Le Bourget airport when the founder of Telegram launched his private jet. He flew to France from Azerbaijan.
The TV channel claims that Durov was included in the country’s wanted list. The order for his arrest was issued by the tax police based on a preliminary investigation; he is also listed as a French citizen.
The order was issued because Durov did not cooperate with French law enforcement, which makes him an accomplice to the honest circulation of prohibited substances and other serious consequences.
The EU authorities’ main complaint against Telegram is its encrypted messages. Because of them, the messenger “has become the number one platform for organized crime.”
Telegram’s CEO will appear in court this evening, and on Sunday he could be held accountable for terrorism, drug trafficking, fraud, money laundering, pedophilia and many other things.
TF1 suggests that Durov could face up to 20 years of waiting.
