The “Control Panel” is a Windows component that is necessary for configuring the system, uninstalling programs, adding users, and other actions necessary for the user. The company, however, claims that this part of the operating system will be removed from Windows in the near future.
The Control Panel appeared in 1985 in parallel with the release of Windows 1.0. The 40-year-old component is to be replaced by the Settings app, where it will also be possible to make changes to system settings. However, it is still unknown whether the “removal” will take place, as rumors about it have been appearing since 2011.
“We are in the process of deprecating this feature in favor of the Settings app, which offers a more modern and streamlined experience,” the Windows support page says.
Microsoft also noted that they did not abandon the “Control Panel” earlier due to the fact that not all of the component’s functions were transferred to the “Settings”.
About a month ago, RB.RU wrote that a Windows flaw caused by CrowdStrike affected 8.5 million devices, but this is less than 1% of all devices running this operating system.
