“He was placed under judicial supervision, among other things, with the obligation to pay a bail of five million euros, the obligation to report to the police station twice a week and the prohibition to leave French territory,” the document says.

He is charged with ten offences, including complicity in the administration of an online platform for illegal transactions by an organised group and refusal to provide data or documents when requested by authorised authorities.

For the first offense alone, Durov could face up to ten years in prison and a fine of 500,000 euros.

The preliminary investigation against Telegram began in February this year. Initially, the case was handled by the National Office for Minors (OFMIN), and from there the information was sent to the cybercrime department of the National Office for the Fight against Organized Crime of the Paris Public Prosecutor’s Office. They said that the messenger’s management does not respond to legal requests.

On the evening of August 28, Telegram founder Pavel Durov was released from custody in France, after which he was to be questioned by an investigating judge.
