This feature, called dual-screen conversation mode, allows you to use the device’s external and internal screens simultaneously, making it easier to communicate with people who speak different languages.
When the user speaks their own language, the text is displayed on the external display and the translation in the other person’s language appears on the internal display. This makes the communication process more convenient and intuitive.
The dual-screen conversation mode was initially only available through Google Assistant, which was criticized by users who forgot the activation command.
However, this feature is now built directly into the Google Translate app, making it available without having to call the voice assistant.
Unfortunately, this mode only works on Google and Samsung foldable devices running Android 14; other foldable smartphones like the OnePlus Open or the Motorola Razr Plus do not support the API required for dual-screen mode to work.
