This premium tier, which will use Claude’s AI, is expected to cost between $5 and $10 per month, and is needed to recoup the significant $4 billion Amazon invested in Anthropic last year.
While the “standard” Alexa will remain free and will perform basic tasks like controlling smart devices and setting timers, the Extraordinary Alexa will offer “advanced conversational capabilities.” Unlike the free version, it will interact with users in a more contextual way. For example, it can recommend outfits based on upcoming weather conditions or past purchases.
The new service could also integrate with Amazon’s existing healthcare partnerships, providing users with more comprehensive support by connecting with healthcare providers when needed. But the exact features and advantages of Exceptional Alexa over existing AI solutions like Gemini and ChatGPT are still unclear.
