Telecom operators were advised not to interfere with the immediate blocking of resources initiated by government authorities. These warnings are also addressed to those providers who speed up the operation of YouTube, the publication quotes the position of market participants and lawyers as saying.
The regulator is now working harder with internet providers and specifies that their orders must be executed immediately. Otherwise, they face administrative liability.
“In case of non-compliance with the instructions, retaliatory measures will be taken against the offenders in accordance with the Law “On Communications”, which may include cancellation of the license.”
This is stated in letters from the territorial departments of Roskomnadzor for the Northwestern Federal District, the Republic of Dagestan and the Ryazan region, as cited by Forbes.
The report also notes that the President of the Association of Small Regional Telecom Operators (AMOR) Dmitry Galushko and the publication’s interlocutors at three telecom operators confirmed receipt of such instructions.
In Russia, YouTube began to slow down at the end of July. Video upload speeds initially dropped by 40% and then by 70%. The move is related to the “anti-Russian” video hosting policy.
