The calculations are based on data that the messenger has around 850 million monthly active users. With revenue per user of $0.4 and costs around $0.7, Telegram is facing losses per user.
Most of the costs are for developing and supporting the service, which amounts to almost $400 million.
Telegram is actively looking for ways to improve monetization by expanding its subscription and ad service offerings. The company managed to increase revenue from Premium subscriptions by 6 times in 2023 and earn $130 million from its integrated crypto wallet.
But Telegram’s financial future remains in doubt.
Pavel Durov had previously announced plans for an IPO, but legal cases are ongoing against the company in France that could affect its success and scare off investors and advertisers.
