The Mac mini has been popular with those looking for an affordable Apple computer since its debut in 2005. The current M2 model is functional and compact, but still retains its decade-old design. Apple’s move to custom chips promised form factor innovation, but the Mac mini remains largely unchanged.
The new design is expected to make the Mac mini more compact and is aimed at users who install these machines in server racks. The new design will reportedly keep most of the existing ports (USB-C, HDMI, Ethernet, and a headphone jack) and eliminate the USB-A ports in favor of an internal power supply.
Additionally, the new Mac mini is expected to be cheaper to manufacture, which could result in a lower starting price, considering the updated Mac mini with the M4 chip could cost around $600.
