A Mayo Clinic study published in the journal Nature Medicine found that this advanced tool identified twice as many cases of heart failure compared to traditional obstetric surveillance.

Heart failure during pregnancy, especially peripartum cardiomyopathy, often goes unnoticed because symptoms are confused with the “normal discomforts” of pregnancy. The study, conducted in Nigeria, a region with high rates of the disease, used a digital stethoscope powered by artificial intelligence to more accurately analyze heart function.

An AI-powered stethoscope detects cases of low ejection fraction, a key symptom of heart failure, 12 times more effectively than standard screening methods.

Future research will investigate the usability and impact of this tool in different healthcare settings.
