Chase Bank said it was cooperating with law enforcement after discovering thousands of people were attempting to commit the scam. “Depositing a bad check and withdrawing money is a scam, plain and simple,” a Chase spokesperson told the Wall Street Journal.

Viral videos promoting the scam have garnered tens of millions of views on TikTok. Chase responded by freezing the accounts involved in the scam and providing surveillance footage and other information to police.
