Tesla has started working on wireless charging for electric cars. The patent for the technology was discovered by social media users. It appeared in a publication of the US Patent and Trademark Office on September 6, 2024. Carbuzz.com writes about it.

The device is supposed to consist of a wall unit and a charging pad built into the floor. The Tesla owner will only have to drive into his garage and charging will begin. The technology is likely to be tested initially on robotaxis.

A year earlier, Tesla confirmed that they were working on an inductive charging system. Investments in the project reached $76 million. Since this process does not involve any action with cables and is done without human intervention, it will probably be shown at the premiere of the robotaxi, scheduled for October 10.

If everything goes according to this scenario, then Tesla could be the first electric car manufacturer to master this technology. Several companies have already tried, but none have implemented this idea yet and some have abandoned these plans altogether.

Tesla plans to begin production of the six-seat Model Y in late 2025 in China, but is still awaiting government approval for a 70-hectare expansion of the facility.
