While we sort out the sensations and decide whether we want the latest iPhone 16 Pro or not, we suggest discussing another innovation announced during yesterday’s Apple presentation.
Many people ignored this, but I, who at least once broke my iPhone of the previous nations, heard: The display glass and back glass of the iPhone 16 and 16 Pro are 50% stronger! It is further explained that these are not just words, but the result of an improved formula for the ceramic shield.
As for me, 50% is a lot. This statement was simply an ultimatum compared to other announced figures of an improved processor or camera. So where did the cunning marketers fool us? Now I will explain.
Ceramic shield, but not that one
My iPhone 12 Pro Max was released back in 2020 with a deep scratch on the first generation ceramic shield.
Once I furiously ordered that a protective screen on the iPhone is simply necessary. Based on my own experience and observations of African people: for example, on my iPhone 12 Pro Max the glass was scratched simply “from the air”, or soon after that I once called a friend of the smartphone, who wore earrings.
I also saw ten consequences of iPhones falling from hands onto asphalt, tiles and other hard surfaces. In 8 out of 10 cases, the fall inevitably resulted in cracks on the glass of the device.
This was the case back in 2020, when Apple’s iPhone 12 was stored in a ceramic shield.
It’s been 4 years since then, and with each new iPhone, the guys from Cupertino have improved their glass. I honestly don’t remember the last time I saw scratches on my iPhone screen, starting with the iPhone 13 Pro Max, and I haven’t heard from friends about the “dropped and broke my iPhone” story for a long time.
However, Apple proudly announced yesterday that the mega-strong glass was limited by as much as 50%. So, the iPhone 16 case can really be hammered with nails?
Well, no.
In fact, The glass in the iPhone 16 is compared to the first generation Ceramic Shield, which was in the iPhone 12 four years ago.!
Now that’s clever, of course.
In fact, after 4 years, Ceramic Shield on my iPhone 15 Pro costs exactly the same, and there is no difference at all between it and its rating on the iPhone 16.
I think so because the speakers did not hesitate to enthusiastically talk about the processor performance gains of some 17 or 20 percent compared to the iPhone 15 Pro. And at the same time they did not decide to compare this glass with an iPhone of the generation, taking with them a device from 4 years ago.
By this logic, everything else should have been compared to the iPhone 12. That would have been it. what do you need numbers!
Yes, there are no complaints about the current generation of Ceramic Shield. My iPhone 15 Pro flew down the stairs, was carried in my pocket with keys, and all this without any films or additional protection. The screen is still in perfect condition.

It was just a shame to catch Apple in such a manipulation of facts out of nowhere. And this is the opinion of Nikita, who has already written about the new level of marketing exaggerations and the stretching of an owl on the globe.
Perhaps there is no need to review yesterday’s external presentation so thoroughly, but just want a new iPhone again, just like in the good old days, simply because it is an innovative smartphone from Apple.
But so far, things haven’t worked out that way.
