Flappy Bird will return to the App Store in 2025 with new game modes and a selection of characters.
The game is being developed by a group of fans who were able to negotiate with Doug Nguyen, the creator of the original Flappy Bird, to transfer the rights so that the re-release would be legal.
Flappy Bird was released on iOS in 2013 and became a huge hit in early 2014. Everyone played it, but the creator of the game decided to remove it to avoid unnecessary attention. He was also worried that some users would end up addicted to the games.
At its peak, Flappy Bird was bringing in $50,000 a day, Nguyen says. After the game was removed from the App Store, iPhones that still had it began selling at a big premium. [9to5Mac]
