After months of rumours, Asus has finally unveiled the next generation of its premium gaming phones. The ROG Phone 6 and 6 Pro were presented at an event in their native Taiwan.
Asus hasn’t strayed from its goal of delivering the best mobile gaming experience with the new phones, and there are a few key updates worth talking about. Here’s everything you need to know about the ROG Phone 6 series.
Asus ROG Phone 6 release date
Asus officially announced the ROG Phone 6 and 6 Pro at a special event on July 5.
Pre-orders in the UK, Europe, and Taiwan are available today on the Asus ROG website, with the devices shipping to customers “within a few weeks.” Nothing more specific was revealed at the event.
The ROG Phone 5S and 5S Pro took nearly three months to ship to the US and Europe, so don’t expect any earlier delivery times this time around.

Specifications and features of the Asus ROG Phone 6
This price cements the ROG Phone 6 and 6 Pro in the premium price range and they are the most expensive gaming phones you can buy. Asus tries to justify this by equipping both phones with top-tier specs.
For most people, the most exciting upgrade is the move to the new Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 chipset on both phones. This is only the second and third phone to use Qualcomm’s new flagship processor, after the Xiaomi 12 Ultra. But the ROG Phone 5 series used Snapdragon 888+, making it two generations newer. It’s available with 12GB or 16GB of RAM on the regular ROG Phone 6, with 18GB being the only option on the Pro. The phones support dual SIM but no expandable storage, so you’ll have to settle for 256/512GB on the Pro. Phone 6 or 512 GB only on the 6 Pro.
Both phones still have a 6.78-inch FHD+ (2448×1080) AMOLED display, but the refresh rate is now 165Hz. That’s up from 144Hz on the ROG Phone 5 series and joins the Red Magic 7 and 7 Pro. like the highest refresh rate phones you can buy. However, it supports the same 360Hz touch sampling rate, much lower than on Nubia phones.
Playing games on such a dynamic screen inevitably takes a toll on battery life, but Asus is keeping the same 6,000mAh battery capacity as before. However, the jump from 144Hz to 165Hz is unlikely to affect the excellent battery life we saw with the ROG Phone 5s Pro. You also get a 65W charger included in the box.
ROG Phone 6 and 6 Pro have identical camera setups. That means a 50-megapixel main camera, a 13-megapixel ultra-wide and a 5-megapixel macro lens on the back, and a 12-megapixel front camera. The latter can be used for face unlock, but you’ll probably rely on an under-display fingerprint sensor.
Aside from the RAM bump, the only other difference from the Pro is the optional ROG Vision display on the back. It can be used to display battery percentage, incoming calls, and information about any connected accessories. But unlike the Galaxy Z Flip 3’s outer screen, it can’t display your notifications. On a normal phone, there is only one logo illuminated with RGB lighting.
The phones come with Android 12, but Asus has introduced its usual set of software tweaks for gamers. It also promises to only release two major Android updates, suggesting you’ll get Android 13 and one more.
At 228 grams, the Phone 6 and 6 Pro are some of the heaviest phones you can buy. Optionally, a wide range of accessories can be connected, including the Kunai 3 gamepad and AeroActive Cooler 3. However, these are additional accessories that must be purchased separately.
