In the previous system, users could follow other accounts and become friends if both accounts followed each other. The update reintroduces a “clearer” way to connect.
Existing friends will remain intact, but new ones will require “explicit approval.”
The new friend request system is available to beta testers now and will be rolled out more widely in the coming weeks.
