SpaceX owner Elon Musk has again made a statement on his personal account on his own social network X, where he claimed that the Starship spacecraft “will make life multiplanetary and save Earth from the process of extinction.” But for this to happen, the right conditions must be in place; for example, the absence of government regulation and bureaucracy.

The super-heavy, reusable, two-stage rocket has every chance of entering orbit and returning safely from there: in June, the whole world witnessed how Starship landed for the first time in the history of tests, after which Elon has already started planning flights to Mars.

Such launches are possible to save the planet from extinction, “unless bureaucracy prevents it,” the billionaire believes. According to him, government regulation is becoming “more and more suffocating” every year and if this continues, all large projects in the United States “will become illegal.”

As an example, he cites the “incredibly slow” construction of a high-speed rail line in California, in which billions have been invested over many years, “with virtually no progress.”

“Improving the efficiency of government is the only way to extend life beyond Earth,” Musk argues.

At the same time, the billionaire is concerned not only with saving the planet, but also with his own salvation. The more public and influential a person becomes, the more terrifying threats he receives. In this regard, he has significantly expanded the staff of his bodyguards.

According to The New York Times (NYT), based on internal Tesla documents and police reports, Musk regularly faces promises of retaliation, so he created a 20-person “mini-department” Foundation Security, which costs the company $2.4 million (data from 2023).

This does not include payments to the company’s security firm, Gavin de Becker & Associates. It is estimated that the amount may exceed that limit this year, as $500,000 was spent in the first two months of 2024 alone.

According to three of Musk’s “close associates,” the billionaire confidently goes “even to the bathroom in office X.” He becomes increasingly nervous, constantly demands intensive checks of all offices before important meetings, and even at the famous Burning Man festival in the Nevada desert he prefers to stay “close to his camp.”

Previously, the billionaire spent about $145,000 a month on security, and then had two bodyguards. The publication compares Musk’s demands with the conditions of other richest people on the planet: Warren Buffett has only one bodyguard, the company spends $820,000 to protect Apple CEO Tim Cook, Amazon spends $1.6 million (to protect Jeff Bezos), etc.
