Speaking at the Citi 2024 Global TMT conference, Michael Dell admitted that the anticipated refresh cycle is “definitely delayed.” Dell hinted that this delay could lead to an even bigger update when it finally arrives. He noted that enterprise IT departments will likely accelerate their upgrade plans as Windows 10 nears its end of life. “As we get closer to the one-year mark, businesses are starting to rush to meet the looming deadline,” Dell explained.
Similarly, HP CEO Enrique Lores highlighted the factors driving the upcoming PC refresh at the Goldman Sachs Communacopia + Technology conference. Lores noted that many PCs purchased during the COVID-19 pandemic are nearing the end of their lifespan. He also noted that the gradual rollout of Windows 11 has contributed to the increase in updates.
A delay in the upgrade cycle can mean an increase in demand when businesses are ready to upgrade, both because of older hardware and the need to update hardware to the latest software requirements.
