The company announced that the head of the Yandex Health service, Fedor Kireev, will be working on the Genotek team. Doctors who previously worked with the service will continue to provide consultations.
Yandex’s press service added that the field of telemedicine is experimental for the company. The sale of the project will help maintain the service and support users and partner doctors. Genotek will receive a mobile application and web interface from Yandex Health.
“To make the transition of the service to a new domain comfortable for users and partners, for the first time after the transaction they will be automatically redirected from health.yandex.ru to the section of the Genotek website with the familiar “Health” interface. For the convenience of users, Yandex will also provide Genotek with the opportunity to use the Health brand for 18 months,” the company said.
They also added that Yandex will now focus on developing health-related information services, for example, on finding doctors, as well as on creating and using neural networks in medicine.
Genotek patients will have the opportunity to undergo comprehensive online check-ups, receive remote consultations with doctors of various profiles and recommendations based on their genetic profile and other health data.
“Collaboration with highly qualified doctors from various specialties will allow Genotek customers to receive the most accurate recommendations for managing their health. It will also enable specialists in the field of genetics and biomedicine to access broader and more diverse data to develop even more effective diagnostic and treatment methods,” said Yandex Health Service head Kireev, whose words are quoted in the message.
Genotek’s chief scientific officer Alexander Rakitko said that AI and ML-based algorithms will help analyze not only genetic data, but also other aspects of health. This way, it will be possible to create a general forecast of disease risk and take necessary measures.
The companies did not disclose what stake Yandex Genotek acquired in this area, the amount of the transaction, or other details of the transaction. RB.RU sent inquiries to the companies.
In 2020, Yandex itself invested in the Genotek medical genetics center. The company then received $4 million. These funds were to be used to develop the company’s scientific, medical and commercial base, create new products and develop services.
