Google conducted a study that revealed how using a dark theme affects phone battery life. On devices with OLED screens, this setting helped save 15-63% battery life, but on devices with LCD screens, no such effect was seen.

Additionally, a study conducted at Purdue University showed that the dark theme is only 3-9% effective when the screen brightness is no more than 30-50%.

Finally, the 4PDA portal conducted an experiment with the Vivo V21 smartphone with an AMOLED screen. It turned out that the difference in autonomy when setting a dark and light theme is significant if the maximum brightness is used. For example, when watching videos on YouTube, battery consumption in dark mode is reduced by more than half. At average screen brightness, the difference was not so noticeable, although still significant.
