The o1-preview and o1-mini models, introduced last week, feature advanced reasoning capabilities and a step-by-step problem-solving process. However, according to the media, OpenAI decided to hide the underlying chain of thought of these models by only providing a “filtered interpretation.”
Eager to uncover the hidden logic, enthusiasts and researchers have used techniques to “trick” the AI into telling the story. Despite early successes, OpenAI is reportedly blocking these attempts by sending warning emails to those trying to bypass protections.
OpenAI explains the decision as a desire to “preserve competitive advantage” and “improve user experience,” but critics claim it limits transparency.
