The Russian government is implementing international measures to ease sanctions for leaking medical data.
To do this, the monetary data operator will have to select several conditions:
▶︎ The company must annually invest an amount “not less than a certain amount” in information security.
▶︎ In the event of a data leak, the company must pay monetary compensation to all those convicted.
▶︎ The Company is obliged to ensure compliance with the requirements for the protection of digital data when processing them in the relevant information system.
▶︎ There must be no aggravating circumstances
These countries may be ready for the second reading of the bills on fines for financial data leaks. The law on the first reading was passed in January 2024.
Companies in Russia have increasingly begun to hide leaks of financial data due to the law on turnover fines
This provides for administrative and criminal liability for the leakage and illegal use of personal data.
According to the bill, a company will be fined 3-15 million rubles (depending on the volume of data) for a data leak, and a repeat violation could result in a fine of 0.1-3% of revenue.
It also provides for criminal punishment punishable by up to 8 years of imprisonment for those who export data of Russian citizens abroad for their sale or transfer. If the leak can cause harm to life and health of people, as well as security breaches, this can lead to exposure for up to 10 years of imprisonment. [ТАСС]
