Taxis with autopilot could not avoid the cars involved in the accident because there was a pavement on the right and a double straight line on the left. According to eyewitnesses, the autopilot assessed that deviating from the road would violate traffic rules and decided to wait until the obstacle was removed.

Let us remind you that Yandex has been developing autopilot technology since 2017, and in 2021, the company’s unmanned fleet consists of more than 170 vehicles with a total range of 13 million km.

Although accidents involving driverless vehicles are rare, such cases show that AI systems still face challenges in solving complex traffic problems.

It is worth noting that previous incidents with drones were also recorded in the USA, and the culprits were precisely AI cars. This once again highlights the need for further improvements in technology.
