The bill proposes to include tourist accommodation facilities and places in the unified state register of classification in the tourism industry. Those who are included in the registry can count on receiving “stars.”

“The changes proposed by the bill are aimed, first of all, at improving the quality of services provided by hotels and other accommodation establishments to tourists,” says the explanatory note of the bill.

The registration will not include children’s camps and sanatoriums, accommodation facilities for religious organizations or rural tourism facilities on farms. Accommodations that are not registered in the registry will not be able to provide services to tourists, the note states. This will not apply to hostels and rental apartments.

After passing three readings in the State Duma, approval by the Federation Council and signing by the President of the Russian Federation, the draft law on the classification of tourist accommodation facilities will enter into force on October 1, 2024 .
