While bloggers and journalists in reviews of the iPhone 16 wonder why Apple Intelligence is not at the start with an endless stream of advertising statements from Apple, I have an even more serious question. Even two.

The question and the answer did not fall from the sky. I have an ironclad belief that the reason is trivial and, so far, it seems, in Apple’s irrevocable lag in the AI race.

I learned about powerful AI at Samsung by accident
A conversation about the AI capabilities of the Samsung Galaxy S23+ with my friend in response to a proposal to reformulate the script I was working on for the voice-over of our video about possible announcements of the iPhone 16 presentation.
When the chatbot actually did a smart and structured job, I was truly surprised.
The feature launched in English initially on Samsung, but not on iPhone. It also produces smart results! How’s that?

Then I suddenly remembered how arrogantly I had perceived the announcements of AI capabilities in Samsung presentations. I thought that it would either work poorly, or would only be in English, and in Russia they would be blocked altogether. And here you go magic.
Others started digging bells and whistles on her smartphone. And I realized that now I would be surprised more than once.

Out of curiosity, I felt its switch and realized that nothing works this way except decoding audio in text – and it doesn’t even provide for creating a summary.
This means that the speed and quality of performance in the Galaxy S23+ is provided by servers running in unknown locations. partners and it is not clear how the data is stored.
In the gradual future, this may be, and this is not scary, but in fact the company is a free online service that operates with your private information. There is little trust in Samsung in this regard, and even with the slightest problem with the Internet, all the chips will fall down.
Apple, on the other hand, focuses on running AI offline and only as a last resort connects its own secure servers, which do not even have permanent memory dies.
These are at least somehow strict restrictions in hardware. Apple Intelligence, even in online format, does not appear on older iPhones almost entirely due to the company’s savings on worker in older devices. While Apple is losing the battle

Apple is already behind in software, although Apple Intelligence will work completely offline, unlike cloud AI on Samsung smartphones.
At the same time, while all the new chips reach the iPhone, the Galaxy S25, which will appear in literally three to four months, will be quite able to perform tasks on the device thanks to the Snapdragon 8 Gen 4, which should become the powerful A18 in the field of neural cores.
Perhaps Apple will continue to catch up with competitors in the field of AI features for a long time, if in principle it can. Its only solution will be to increase the pace of releases of these features and push them on time. Apple Intelligence literally all the life-improving machine learning-based techniques that have been used in the iPhone for a decade.
The only problem is that this will not reach the Russian language soon. There is very little hope.
