The official release of the long-awaited solo album about the beloved millions – the film “Minions: Gruvitation” took place.
Over the past weekend, the novelty has collected a record $ 128 million. Isn’t this an indicator of success and high expectations from the franchise?
Sometimes it even seems to me that a whole cult has gathered around the minions. The publication loves them so much.
We have already reviewed the cartoon and are in a hurry to share our impressions. Did it live up to our expectations? We understand.
A long-awaited return to the old universe
Postponed several times due to the coronavirus pandemic. And now this moment has come, we finally saw the sequel.
This time the story is about Gru’s youth. He already lives in Greece with minions who actively serve. At the same time, the “Evil Gear” is operating in the world – a league of supervillains that constantly meets and steals rare valuables (some even magical ones).
And so it happens that the villains leave their partner to die, while they themselves are looking for a place to replace him. Gru, found out about this, immediately sent an application to join the ranks. However, there is a small problem – he is only 11 years old (11.5 to be exact). Of course, there is no problem with the occurrence of serious problems, so he does not solve a single case of finding an artifact in the villains in order to reveal himself. True, this is not a good reproduction …
To solve all the problems without the help of the minions will not show up. And on the way to a solution, they constantly play dirty tricks, play pranks, drive stupidly and recklessly … However, nothing new. Yes, the authors decided to follow the proven track and did not change their interests in order to be inspired by the already stale picture of a new life.
This is one of the main problems of the novelty. In particular, in the films Despicable Me and Minions. They use the same jokes, the same artistic techniques. They are still working, yes, but not as efficient as they were a few years ago.
It’s a funny movie, but it’s not exactly exciting. it does not delay every seconddoes not excite with its hurricane action (although there is plenty here), but simply goes at its own pace, sometimes sagging on empty and often frankly stupid dialogues (yes, I know that this is intended, but this is already too much).
If you throw out part of the scene, then about 50 minutes will remain from the cartoon, although it takes an hour and twenty.
But one thing I can say for sure is that the sequel is better than the original. The first minion spin-off doesn’t come out as anything special at all. It was a passing movie without a central plot and with too blurry accents. The novelty is seen as a step forward, and this is the merit of screenwriter Matt Vogel, who was involved in The Lego Movie.
All major issues, we have a normal hero and villain, the importance of the cartoon theme (growing up, rebelliousness, loyalty, work in the download and much more) began to rise, many references and Easter eggs appeared. Pure fanserfis, working for the fans.
True, Gru-boy himself is different from Gru-adult from Despicable Me. Here he is looking for company and comrades, and there he was, on the contrary, unsociable and hated others. This looks a little strange.
Excellent commercial product
That’s how I can characterize the new Minions. It is designed to please fans, old topics or raise new issues important to the franchise. He doesn’t even try to rethink the original.
This movie in its purest form was created for a short fun pastime, without obligation. The same goes for watching movies.
After reviewing the news, you nothing left of watching. No emotion. It will be fun and interesting only during the cartoon, but nothing more. There are no memorable moments, no catchy events either, the characters are sluggishly written. But it still works. People are minions and will continue to love them.
It’s a pure water service that still manages to be enjoyable, albeit on a brief basis. It’s nice to look at the options you’ve liked over the years again, and it will be nice to look at them again in the future. For this reason, the novelty collects so well at the box office, because all (or most) minion love.
However, in fact, this is a blank, a “fish” of capturing a document, in which there is a lack of content and built-in contexts. Well, the timing of the image to be desired. It seems to me that exhaustive films and cartoons are no longer being made, but no.
Watchable but nothing special
If you choose not to watch Minions: Gruvitation, you have nothing to lose.
This is a candy in a bright wrapper, but the contents are to be desired. Explosions, jokes, recklessness and other gestures are great, but you won’t get far on this. And in the end, we have an absolutely formulaic movie that does not display anything after itself. But the time spent on it can hardly be called empty.
